Demolition and Extent of Removal a. Buildings and appurtenances shall be removed to the existing ground level. b. Demolition shall also include removal of trees, shrubs, fencing that corresponds with property, concrete slabs or any other type of floor, driveways/parking pads, sidewalks, and/or steps resting upon the ground. Retaining walls per approval of City Engineer. Foundations, Foundation walls, and basement floor shall be completely removed prior to backfilling. c. The basement and any other space below ground level shall be backfilled so as to obtain a minimum density equal to that of the surrounding ground. d. The top twelve (12) inches of the backfill shall be soil. Backfill deeper than twelve (12) inches may be any mixture of soil and random rock containing not less than 25 percent soil. i. The following definitions shall apply to all backfill required by this specification: Soil. Disintegrated rock, shale, brick or concrete of which 25 percent by weight shall pass a No. 200 sieve and no particle shall have a maximum dimension greater than one and one half (1 1/2) inches. Random Rock. Broken sandstone, limestone, shale, marble, granite, tile, slate, brick or concrete which has no pieces with a maximum dimension greater than twelve (12) inches. e. Upon completion of the backfill, the entire area disturbed by demolition activities shall be seeded with a lawn grass at the rate of one pound per 1000 square feet.
