2.2 Background CPA has worked with the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORD) to complete repairs, new construction and additions of recreational facilities. NORD's mission is to improve the physical, mental, and social well-being of New Orleanians by providing safe and welcoming environments for recreational activities, athletic activities, and cultural experiences. Currently, NORD has secured funding to procure professional services for continued repairs and improvements to Sam Bonart Playground, including the following “wish list” items for the project scope. The architect will assist NORD and the project manager to decide which of the wish list items can be completed within the project budget of $1,725,000. Playground Scope: The new playground area requires new safety surfacing and various playground structure accessory slide replacements. Vacant Field Scope: NORDC wishes to create a football field in the vacant field across Urquhart St. from the existing Sam Bonart baseball field. This field is to be turtle-backed to facilitate adequate drainage. Field floodlights and bleachers are to be provided. Concrete walkways will be needed in various locations. Support Facility Scope: This space will require a new stand-alone heat and cool unit. New Pool Facility: If there is enough funding to allow, the existing pool facility will be renovated. This will include improvements to the exterior pool area as well as the locker room facility. 2.3 Purpose The City seeks proposals from qualified architectural and engineering firms and/or individuals to produce design and construction documents for the rehabilitation of its recreational facility.
