Prevention of Homelessness is an intervention used to avoid a housing crisis which includes, but is not limited to, a financial setback, a landlord/tenant conflict, or a dispute between Household members. The HP activities are designed to prevent a Household from moving into an emergency shelter or to a public or private place not meant for human habitation. The HP helps such persons regain stability in their current housing or other Permanent Housing through housing relocation and stabilization services, and financial assistance such as short-term rent payments. The Providers working with families will use Ohana Nui, a Family-centered approach that looks at the needs of everyone, not just the head of the household. This strategy aims to help families break the cycle of poverty by focusing on key areas like housing, food and nutrition, health, financial independence, education, and building community connections.
