The following project is the subject of this Request for Proposal ("RFP"): Wildwood Elementary School Project, Wilmington, Massachusetts The project consists of the construction of a new three-story Wildwood Elementary School Project on the site of the existing North Intermediate School site. The new school will contain 165,000 square feet, including a high school size gymnasium. The project is further described as PK5-N.1 in the Preferred Schematic Report (PSR) Submission dated October 24, 2024 and summarized below: Option PK-5 N.1, voted the preferred alternative, will be a new consolidated school for 755 students plus 100 Pre-K students on the North Intermediate School site, and fulfills the district’s educational program by working within overarching guiding principles for design as identified by the District during the Preliminary Design Program, and early programming efforts which were confirmed throughout the PSR phase. Outlined below is a summary of the key objectives from which the design of the preferred alternative was based, which embody the elements of the educational program. Site Features Include: • Separate bus loop, parent drop off loop, and Pre-K park-and-drop area for safety, while providing pedestrian pathways to promote walking to school. • Age-appropriate playgrounds located adjacent to the school, as well as fields in proximity to the school and parking to support student and community use. • Outdoor Learning Spaces and landscape features that enhance and support learning and playing as integral site facilities. Building Features and Adjacencies Include: • Distinct separation of “public” and “private” wings of the building. The public zone accommodates spaces that may be accessed by students, staff, and/or the community during and/or after school hours. The "private" zone includes the classroom and academic wings of the building. This configuration allows the private wing of the building to be secured from the remainder of the building during off school hours, special events, or lockdown. • Academic areas organized into two Lower Elementary wings including grades PreK-K and grades 1-2, and an Upper Elementary wing for grades 3-5. • Seven grade-level neighborhoods, each with grade-level clusters of classrooms with distributed and shared extended learning space and Small Group Rooms. • Special Education-related rooms are distributed and integrated throughout all grade level teams. • Spatial relationships support flexibility. • Occupational and Physical Therapy within same space and adjacent to gymnasium: Adaptive PR co-located within the Gymnasium. • Flexible plan for large gatherings including a stage between the Gym and Cafeteria for flexibility in either direction. • Centrally placed support space for Academic service providers equidistant from both sides of the building.
