The Contractor shall repair the existing pavement in areas where the pavement has been removed to allow for installation of pipe culverts. Pavement Repair shall be in conformance with Section 654 of the January 2024 Edition of the North Carolina Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Roads and Structures. Unless otherwise instructed by the Engineer, this work shall consist of removing the existing material to a depth of five and one half inches (5 1/2") below the existing finished grade, then placing approximately four inches (4") of Asphalt Base Course, Type B25.0C and one and one half inches (1 1/2") of Asphalt Surface Course, Type S9.5B or Type S9.5C in the excavated area. The Contractor shall furnish Asphalt Plant Mix for Pavement Repair.; Construction of asphalt concrete plant mix shall be according to Section 610 of the Standard Specifications with the exception for the payment as specified in Article 610-16. For projects that require in excess of fifty (50) tons of base, intermediate, and surface course asphalt concrete, the Contractor has the option of providing Type B25.0C or Type I-19.0C for the lower portion of the pavement structure. The upper one and one half inches (1 1/2”) of pavement shall be constructed with either Type S9.5B or Type S9.5C Surface Course. The Contractor must contact the Engineer prior to placement of any asphalt concrete to verify that the selected mix is appropriate. For quantities of asphalt concrete less than 50 tons, payment shall be made according to “Pavement Repair”. Payment for asphalt concrete plant mix by the ton shall be full compensation for providing and placing the material as specified in Section 610 of the Standard Specifications.; Dissimilar pipe couplers are used to seal a butt joint connection between two different types or outside diameters of pipe. The inside diameters of pipes to be connected should measure within one inch of each other unless otherwise directed by the RCE. Couplers can be used on pipes and end treatments with inside diameters ranging from 15” to 72”. The coupler can be used to connect pipes of different materials, i.e. aluminum, HDPE, and concrete.
