Jackson County is soliciting proposals from qualified firms to perform all necessary demolition, disposal, evaluation, investigations, engineering, permitting, construction and all other required services to return the facility to pre-incident condition. On December 21, 2024, a strong regional wind event resulted in a large ponderosa pine tree toppling and landing on, and resulting in significant damage to the day use lodge. The tree is approximately 3’ in diameter at breast height. Response efforts were enacted to remove the tree to the extent needed to prevent additional water damage to the structure on the same day as the initial damage occurred. The top of the tree was removed to allow for the roof to be temporarily sheathed and tarped. The bulk of the trunk remains embedded in the building, attached to the trunk. Damage is visible from the outside of the building and a portion of the inside. However, due to the nature of the tree placement, some areas of the building are inaccessible including a mechanical room that houses the electrical panels, hot water heater, ice maker, and laundry facilities. Also inaccessible are two public restrooms with a single flush toilet and sink.
