The Office of Environmental Justice and Equity will provide grants of up to $75,000 to eligible organizations to build organizational capacity. Potential grantees are encouraged to be creative and propose what they think will best meet the goals of this offering. Funding is available for: (1) Building Capacity for Environmental Justice Communities: Empowering Change through Strategic Initiatives: Examples may include strategic planning, professional development, and skill development for existing staff and community members to enhance their ability to effectively address environmental justice issues. (2) Empowering Environmental Justice Communities: Building Relationships and Promoting Equity: Examples may include supporting outreach programs that build relationships with local communities, partnership building, facility rentals, and organizing community events that offer support such as food, childcare, transportation, and participation stipends. (3) Enhancing Environmental Justice through Technological and Infrastructure Improvements: Examples may include the development of community-based research projects, upgrading IT systems, and implementing improved data management practices.
