ODFW desires to hire an Engineering Design Firm to design a new water intake at the hatchery’s #1 intake, along with designing a new diversion dam and fishway. These designs are intended to create a more efficient water intake for the rearing and raising of fish. The latest version of state and federal regulations shall be used in the design and development of the new intake, diversion dam, and fishway. The purpose of this restoration project is to enhance 12 miles of upstream habitat to allow wild fish easier passage past the hatchery. In 2020 a study was conducted analyzing the stream intake, hydrology/hydraulic assessment, streambed characterization, site geomorphology, and sediment evaluation data. The data collected suggests the existing design of the hatchery’s lower dam blocks all upstream movement of all fish to capture hatchery broodstock. A Decision Support Document (Attachment G) was produced to provide a preliminary discussion of the opportunities and constraints associated with providing passage at the dam for wild fish and outlines the potential alternatives to achieve this goal.
