5.0 SPECIFICATIONS – The Contractor will recruit, interview, select, train, hire, and deploy its employees serving as substitutes to cover absences or vacancies for day-to-day or long-term assignments. Substitute staffing is used by UCSD on a daily basis at the majority of our schools. Staffing needs may be pre- planned or may occur at the last minute. The district’s desire is to ensure that every classroom and/or location needing a substitute is appropriately staffed each day with qualified personnel. Staffing categories may include, but not be limited to, substitute teachers for grades Pre-K-12, and assistants and others, as required. The District requests that the Contractor offer employment to the District’s current substitute employees who are in good standing. Long-term substitutes may be required on occasion. For the purposes of this contract, the definition of a long-term substitute is a certified substitute that works for a certified teacher in the appropriate content/certified area and is in a singular placement for 10 or more consecutive days. The District prefers that each long-term substitute have a valid teaching certificate issued by the South Carolina State Department of Education. In situations where a certified substitute teacher is not available, a certified substitute teacher out of content area or a non-certified substitute may be used and considered as an extended assignment.
