CONCRETE SIDEWALK REMOVAL & REPLACEMENT Note: All work listed below shall be included in the unit price per square foot and will be paid under “Concrete sidewalk removal and replacement with 4” of non-reinforced PCCP”. 1.1 Removal of Improvements This item shall consist of all labor and materials required for the removal of existing sidewalk slabs and base material in preparation for replacement. The work shall conform to section 202.20 of the standard specifications. 1.1.1 Method of Measurement and Payment No direct payment will be made for the removal of existing improvements. This shall be incidental to concrete sidewalk removal and replacement. 1.2 Subgrade Preparation This item shall consist of all labor and materials required for the preparation of the subgrade and shall conform to section 209 of the standard specifications. Type “5” aggregate shall be used and compacted to specifications. 1.2.1 Method of Measurement and Payment No direct payment will be made for the subgrade preparations. This shall be incidental to concrete sidewalk removal and replacement. 1.3 Aggregate Base Course This item shall consist of all labor and materials required for the preparation of the 4” (four inch) aggregate base course and shall conform to section 304 of the standard specifications. Type I aggregate shall be used and shall conform to the gradation as outlined in section 1007.1 of the standard specifications. 1.3.1 Method of Measurement and Payment No direct payment will be made for the aggregate base course. This shall be incidental to concrete sidewalk removal and replacement. 1.4 Concrete Sidewalk Placement This item shall consist of all labor and materials required for the installation of the concrete sidewalk slabs. This shall conform to section 502 of the standard specifications. 1.4.1 Method of Measurement and Payment This shall be measured by the square footage and shall be paid at the unit prices for: Concrete sidewalk removal and replacement with 4” of non-reinforced PCCP. TS-2 SAWCUTTING OF EXISTING SIDEWALK SLABS 1.5 Saw Cutting This item shall consist of furnishing all labor and equipment to saw-cut any existing concrete slabs in preparation for the removal of existing defective sidewalks. The locations of the cuts will be marked by the City Representative. 1.5.1 Method of Measurement and Payment No direct payment will be made for the installation of dowels at existing pavement joints. This shall be incidental to concrete sidewalk removal and replacement. 1.6 Grooving / Finishing of Concrete After pouring, all concrete shall be finished and grooved according to the standard specifications used by St. Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic. 1.6.1 Method of Measurement and Payment No direct payment will be made for the finishing and grooving of the poured sidewalks. This shall be incidental to concrete sidewalk removal and replacement. 1.7 Trimming of Roots Tree roots that have caused the sidewalk displacement, shall be removed to outside the form area by making a “clean cut” with a saw. Hatchets or axes are not to be used. 1.7.1 Method of Measurement and Payment No direct payment will be made for the finishing and grooving of the poured sidewalks. This shall be incidental to concrete sidewalk removal and replacement. OVER-EXCAVATION, BACKFILL, AND SITE RESTORATION 1.8 Over-Excavation or Turf Damage Any areas encountered that are disproportionately over-excavated or have unwarranted turf damage, shall be backfilled with quality topsoil and seeded/strawed by the contractor. Backfill shall be placed within three (3) calendar days after the removal of the forms. 1.8.1 Measurement and Method of Payment No direct payment will be made for the over-excavation or backfilling surrounding the poured sidewalks. This shall be incidental to concrete sidewalk removal and replacement. 1.9 Not Used TS-3 2.0 Adjustment of Valves and Service Covers Contractor shall adjust or coordinate the adjustment of all utility valves or service covers within the interior limits of sidewalk slabs to match the grade of the finished sidewalk slabs. This includes, but is not limited to, water valves, gas valves, and sewer manholes. All utility service covers shall be adjusted to the new grade by the Contractor prior to any concrete work. If existing service covers or manhole frames are damaged during adjustment, damaged frames and covers shall be replaced at the Contractor’s sole expense. 2.2.1 Method of Measurement and Payment The cost of replacing risers or adjusting utility valves and meters are incidental items to the Contract and no separate payment shall be made for this. 2.3 Pedestrian Control This Work shall consist of furnishing, placing, and maintaining barricades or cones to block off construction, excavated slabs, over digs, and poured concrete until the concrete has cured, the forms have been removed, and the edges backfilled (if necessary). The contractor is responsible for keeping these areas blocked off to protect the safety of all pedestrians. 2.3.1 Method of Measurement and Payment The work described herein will not be measured and no direct payment will be made for pedestrian control. This includes but is not limited to, the furnishing, placing, and maintaining of signage, barrels, barricades, or cones. 2.4 Cleanup Each site will be left reasonably clean at the end of each day. After the full completion of the project, all locations shall be in the same condition as they were prior to the start of the project. 2.4.1 No direct payment will be made for site cleanup.
