Woodies Removal in Areas 6 & 7 • Remove Honeysuckle, Grapevine, and Raspberry. • Reduce Sumac and eliminate Virginia Creeper. • Continue invasives management to control resprouts and opportunistic invasives. Establish Areas 6 & 7 as Backdune Plant Community • Plant stormwater trees including Jack Pine, White Pine and Oak trees. • Trees will help absorb rainwater and provide habitat for migratory birds. • Plant shrubs, forbs and grasses specific to backdune forested swale communities in bioswale and stabilize the slope. Dune Habitat Areas 1-8: Increase Storm Resiliency, Diversify Vegetation & Provide Maintenance • Maintain fencing where needed to protect and strengthen dune habitats. • Shrink juniper population in D-6. • Monitor and manage invasive species including Grapevine and Virginia Creeper. • Manage litter through volunteerism and social awareness. • Diversify plant community by adding containerized #5-#20 woody species to established plantings. Species may include Jack Pine, Paper Birch and Peach-leafed Willow. Add seed & plugs for herbaceous species. Species may include Beach Pea, Bearberry, Creeping Juniper, Crinkled Hair Grass, Sand Reed Grass, Searockets, St. John’s Wort, and Old Field Juniper. • Add driftwood to stabilize dune and provide habitat. Area 1 Woodies removal • Woodies removal will focus on selectively cutting and treating around desirable trees, shrubs and forbs. • Cut and chip stems to prep area for planting once the invasive population is weakened. • Continue invasives management for a minimum of three years to control resprouts and opportunistic invasives.
