• Serve as general counsel for the City of Ocean Springs, providing legal guidance to the Mayor, Board of Aldermen, various Boards and Commissions, and all city officials on municipal legal matters. • Attend Mayor and Board of Aldermen meetings held on the first and third Tuesday of each month, as well as special call meetings, Planning Commission meetings, and any other Board or Commission meetings as required. • Advise the Mayor, Board of Aldermen, and City staff on legal issues related to municipal operations. • Draft, review, and/or provide legal advice on all ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other agreements entered by the City. • Conduct research and submit legal opinions on municipal or other legal matters as requested. • Keep officials informed on new State or Federal legislation or judicial decisions that may impact the city and propose appropriate action to assure compliance. • Provide counsel on personnel matters, including policies and procedures affecting city employees. • Provide counsel and judicial filings related to land use issues including property acquisitions, property disposals, public improvements, easements, dedications, and right-of-way issues. • Advise and assist in utilizing alternate specialized legal counsel to represent City of Ocean Springs in any litigation in which it is a party. The City reserves the right to utilize the Board Attorney should they choose. • Enforce zoning regulations, building standards, and city codes through administrative and judicial actions. • Deliver services promptly and without unreasonable delays. • Coordinate complaints and issues with citizens and City staff. • Represent the City of Ocean Springs in a professional manner at all times. • Perform any other related municipal legal services not specifically outlined herein.
