Please note: This is a Sole Source Notification. Vendor Name: Faro Technologies, Inc. In 2020, The Colorado State Patrol Criminal Investigations Branch purchased 32 Faro licenses from this vendor. Faro Zone 3D Expert is computer software technology utilized in the scaled diagramming reconstruction of crime scenes. Faro is the industry standard in this software, and CSP VCU has utilized this software for many years. The upgrade requested will allow photogrammetry, ortho mosaic editing, scaled diagramming with built in vehicle models to scale, point cloud plotting utilizing layering techniques for precise measurements, and produce both 2D ortho mosaics and 3D renderings of crime scenes. In addition, the software allows for animation used on our highest level case work and will eliminate the need to upgrade Pix4D in the future due to new photogrammetry capability within the software upgrade. Faro Zone 3D Expert is the perfect compliment to a highly technical and extremely advanced drone fleet within professional investigatory methodology, and allows the unit to get the most out of our investments in the Autel Drones to produce expert level case work. This vendor would be considered sole source due to the fact that this is an upgrade of software licenses that are currently owned by CSP. We are updating software licenses only. If we were to purchase new software licenses and training from a new vendor, it would result in more than double the cost of simply upgrading our current software. FARO is providing us a significantly discounted price ($68,864 in savings, with a total purchase price of $66,816.) CSP members are already trained on using FARO software, so there is a basic understanding on how to use it, which results in less down time and training in order to become proficient. Upgrading software is much more cost effective than purchasing new.
