The Project will consist of planning, designing, permitting, preconstruction activities, and construction services for renovating the existing kitchen area at the Santa Rita Jail (SRJ) facility. The kitchen is located inside the secure outer perimeter of the county jail. The current kitchen occupies approximately 37,960 square feet and is in a separate building apart from the inmate housing units. Food that is prepared at the kitchen is then transported to the individual housing units for service to the inmate population. The renovated kitchen is intended to occupy 23,000 square feet and its method of preparation and delivery will be cook-chill. The food shall be prepared in bulk and rapidly chilled for transportation or storage. It is intended that the primary building systems (mechanical, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, and low voltage systems) will be replaced to accommodate the new kitchen program. The remaining square footage not being utilized by the newly renovated kitchen, primarily on the second floor and a limited portion of the first floor, will become non-occupied storage spaces. Separate access points and ventilation will need to be provided to these non-occupied storage spaces
