The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Aeronautics Division and Weather Operations Group are looking to procure weather information systems for backcountry airstrips in the state of Utah. These systems are expected to provide advisory weather information to pilots who access these airstrips in a way that is native to them. UDOT is well versed in the installation and maintenance of Road Weather Information Systems, but these systems cannot convey weather data natively via METAR (Meteorological Aerodrome Report) format nor via radio frequency communications. Due to the rural nature of these airstrips, it is required that the system be powered by solar power and/or other off-grid power supply and the data outwardly communicated either via cellular or satellite connectivity. It is expected that the system will be mounted on a tripod for simple deployment at these locations by state forces or other UDOT contractors.
