Physical o The system shall be a tabletop or floor mounted configuration. o The system shall have an accessible workspace area for persons of average height standing on the floor or a short stepping stool. o The system shall be operable without requiring modifications to the table or existing 6-inch-thick reinforced concrete slab floor (i.e. anchoring or additional reinforcement). o The system shall fit within the specified dimensions. o The system shall be a dual column electromechanical configuration. o The system shall be capable of rupturing test samples without moving or damaging itself or nearby equipment. Testing o The system shall be capable of testing metals, plastics and FRP composites to various ASTM Standards including ASTM D3039, ASTM D638, ASTM D7205, ASTM D4475, ASTM D7617, ASTM D790, ASTM D2344, and ASTM A370. o The system shall be equipped with adjustable stress, strain, and position rates. o Crosshead Movement: the system must be capable of sufficient elongation to rupture the specimen and additional room for movement after specimen breaks. Measurement o The system shall include a compatible extensometer meeting ASTM Practice E83 Class B-2. o The extensometer shall be essentially free of inertial lag. o The system shall also be compatible with external strain measurement devices such as LVDTs, strain gauges and deflectometers for measuring lateral strain for Poisson’s ratio and deflection. Gripping System: o The vendor shall supply the minimum required fixtures for performing tension and compression tests. o The system shall be compatible with 3rd party test fixtures (machined adapters will be negotiated between vendor and purchaser) for additional test methods. o The system shall include a pneumatic air control kit with footswitch. o The gripping system shall be rotationally self-aligning to prevent introduction of any bending or torsion to the samples. o The system shall include grips capable of holding 0.84 inches (21.34 mm) O.D. rigid pipe shaped anchors as an interface between grips and FRP bars. o The system shall include grips capable of holding tabbed plastic and FRP coupons without crushing or introducing point loads. Computer and Miscellaneous o The system shall include the necessary controllers and software for operation and analysis. The system shall come with a standalone computer meeting the Minimum Computer Requirements section below. o User manuals shall be included with a detailed listing of spare parts, accessories, consumables, and all necessary operation and maintenance instructions and requirements. o The vendor shall validate system performance after delivery and installation.
