The City of Gaithersburg is seeking bids from qualified contractors for traffic signal and associated improvements at the intersection of Christopher Avenue and Russell Avenue. The project will consist of updating the traffic signal equipment, improve the intersection with Americans with Disability Act (A.D.A.) improvements, traffic camera relocation, drainage improvements and pedestrian sidewalk improvements. This project was created after review of the City’s traffic signals. It was determined that some of the existing equipment is no longer serviceable and the intersection needed updated pedestrian signal and safety improvements to meet current standards. The City’s review of materials has determined that the traffic signal mast and arm has a longer lead time than most other products and the signal contractor must be able to phase the project in a way to prepare for the necessary materials appropriately. The City expects the project to be completed by September 30, 2025 or earlier. The Contractor must perform at least eighty (80) percent of the work onsite with its own personnel forces by cost.
