It is the intent of the University of South Carolina to solicit bids from authorized and experienced dealers for a one-time purchase of portable Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) devices for measuring muscle oxygenation and mitochondrial function in various physiological and exercise conditions. The PortaLite MkII and PortaMon MkIII devices from Artinis Medical Systems are Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) systems designed for non-invasive measurement of skeletal muscle and brain tissue oxygenation and mitochondrial function. These devices use continuous wave NIRS technology to measure changes in oxyhemoglobin, deoxyhemoglobin, and total hemoglobin concentration, as well as provide an absolute measure of tissue saturation index (TSI) through spatially resolved spectroscopy (SRS).
