All drones utilized by ITD must receive prior approval from the ITD Division of Aeronautics, Enterprise Technology Services (ETS), and Information Technology Services (ITS). Drones must be equipped with all technologies that the FAA deems essential for the safe integration of drones into national airspace, and they must undergo thorough research and testing. The data collected by drones must be formatted in accordance with FHWA guidelines for use in highway projects. ETS and ITS have final authority over the approval of any data downloaded onto ITD’s network that is gathered from the drones. Skydio and Astromax drones have been approved by all three parties for use in Idaho airspace and for data transfer to ITD’s network. These drones are available from a wide range of distributors.
