Remove a 114-year-old bridge located over San Francisquito Creek spanning between Woodland Avenue (East Palo Alto) and Newell Road (Palo Alto). The existing bridge is approximate 22-ft wide and 80-ft long, and abutments are located within the creek. The proposed bridge is approximately 42.6-ft by 80-ft. Work includes design and install creek protection measure, dewatering plan, demo concrete structures, install new Caltrans standard concrete structures (bridge with reinforced pile abutments, floodwalls and retaining walls), raising the approaches (4-ft – 0) and utility appurtenances (hydrant, valves, cleanouts, laterals, mainlines, manholes, etc.) to grade. Contractor is responsible for the design of retaining walls, complying with environmental permits, preparing plans (traffic control, dewatering, logistics). Additional improvements include permanent creek protection measures, water line relocation, tree removal and new planting. Work within the creek is limited to June 15 – October 15 and all work to be completed within 1.5 years. The project is funded by Highway Bridge Program (HBP), compliance with Caltrans standards and practices is required.
