Doing Business with The State of Colorado

Home to over 5.8 million people and known for its beautiful Rocky Mountains, Colorado is a great state to live in and do business in. If you’re thinking about bidding on government opportunities within the state, we’ll give you some tips on how you can do just that on Bidnet Direct.

Government Spending in Colorado

If you’re looking for new projects to bid on in Colorado, keep an eye out for a bunch of spending coming your way over the next few years. On November 1st, the Governor of Colorado proposed the state’s FY24 budget of $42.7 billion. Although it hasn’t passed yet, you can expect a lot of money going towards education, public safety, healthcare, water quality, and more, which will likely result in many new opportunities for your business to get involved in. Looking back at FY22, according to NASBO (National Association of State Budget Officers), total budget spending reached $35.4 billion, investing a lot of money in K-12 education, higher education, health and hospitals, and highways and roads.

In addition to budget spending, there are still billions of dollars going to Colorado for infrastructure projects from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill that was signed into law in November 2021. So far, over $3 billion from the law has been announced for Colorado and over $1 billion has been awarded over the past two years. Below you can see where some of this announced funding is going to:

  • Over $1.5 billion for roads, bridges, and major projects
  • Over $240 million for clean energy and power
  • Over $231 million for public transportation
  • Over $198 million for water
  • Over $125 million for broadband

With many projects already underway and many more on the horizon, now is a perfect time to start bidding on opportunities throughout the entire State of Colorado.

Getting Notified of Matching Opportunities

On Bidnet Direct, you can get notified of matching opportunities through a few simple steps. As a registered vendor, you’ll first want to go into your bidding profile and add NIGP category codes to your account, which helps identify the products and services your business sells. If you work in construction for example, you can type in keywords such as “construction”, “paving”, or “roads” and all the categories related to those keywords will come up for you to select and add to your account. Once you’ve added all the category codes that apply to your business, you’ll be all set to start receiving daily email notifications with any matching bid opportunities that we find. If you see a bid opportunity that interests you, click on it directly from your email and it’ll take you right to all the bid details so you can decide if you’d like to bid on it.
