Sumner County Government and the City of Portland adopted a Broadband Ready Community resolution in 2023. Under the resolution, the County is working with Greater Nashville Regional Council and the City of Portland to implement public Wi-Fi. Under this resolution, the partnership received funds to assist Qualified Census Tract to place infrastructure and provide free Wi-Fi to the residents. The two tracts in the City of Portland are Meadowbrook and Mainstreet Parks. The Request for Proposal is for an Internet Plan that includes fiber installation to each access point, a dedicated business contact, symmetric speeds, local customer Support, installation and outage prioritization, managed Wi-Fi, and 24/7 Technical support. Every site shall require an electrician as the installation of standard AC power and receptacles inside each enclosure will need to occur. The system shall need to have fully redundant local data centers with geographical diverse paths in and between each data center. The last mile fiber is not redundant.
