Project Name: Replacement of Natural Grass Football Practice Field at University of Utah
Project Overview:
The University of Utah football team requires the replacement of the Thomas Kearns McCarthey football practice field. The project involves removing existing sod and sand layers, adding USGA-grade sand, laser grading to specified slope, and installing new Sports 4-Way Kentucky Bluegrass sod. All work must comply with industry standards, including but not limited to NCAA, Big 12 Conference, Certified Sports Field Manager (CSFM), United States Golf Association (USGA), American Sports Builders Association (ASBA), Sports Field Management Association (SFMA), and applicable ASTM standards.

Scope of Work:
- Site Preparation:
- Use Koro FTM to fraize and remove 75,000 sq feet of existing sod and 2” of sand profile on the football practice field.
- Ensure that removal follows ASTM F2396-11 for proper construction of high-performance sand-based rootzones.
- Base Layer Installation:
- Evenly install 330 tons of USGA-grade sand into the field per USGA Sand-Based Rootzone Recommendations to ensure proper drainage and soil composition.
- Conduct rootzone depth and organic matter composition testing per ASTM F1551-09.
- Laser Grading:
- Laser grade field to desired slope of 0.05% and match existing mow curb grade following ASBA Sports Field Construction Guidelines.
- Verify grading accuracy through ASTM F2396-11 standards.
- Sod Installation:
- Install 75,000 sq feet of Sports 4-Way Kentucky Bluegrass sod.
- Sod must be sand based to match USGA grade of sand used in the new base layer and must meet Turfgrass Producers International (TPI) Quality Certification standards.
- Ensure sod is free of pests, diseases, and contaminants.
- Conduct post-installation sod testing to align with NTEP (National Turfgrass Evaluation Program) sod standards.
- Quality Assurance & Safety Standards:
- Work must meet or exceed NCAA and FIFA field performance testing standards.
- Field maintenance post-installation must align with USGA & SFMA mowing and fertility recommendations.
Bid Requirements:
- Contractors must provide evidence of similar projects completed, including references.
- Detailed breakdown of materials and labor costs.
- Contractor must include all materials, renovation & installation equipment, and labor.
- Timeline and milestones for project execution.
Contractual Requirements:
- Compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Insurance coverage and bonding requirements.
- Payment terms and schedule.
