The scope of work for this contract includes envelope improvements on the 1904 “Carnegie Wing” of the Fletcher Free Library, including masonry, stone, and terra cotta restoration, lead-based paint abatement, wood windows and doors restoration, and fabrication and installation of custom sheet metal gutters and downspouts. The project includes: • Historic Masonry Restoration: including brick repair and repointing, terra cotta repair and repointing, and stone repair and repointing; a written work plan and schedule, and all means and methods necessary to accomplish this work. Qualifications for subcontractors intended to work on the project shall be submitted with the bids on a Subcontractor Qualification form to be provided in the Project Manual. Such subcontractors shall demonstrate evidence of minimum qualifications to work on a State-listed or Nationally-registered historic building, generally consisting of: • Firm being in business at least ten years and on firm financial footing • Successful completion of at least three historical restoration projects of similar size and scope, with “very good” or “excellent” client references • Key personnel (project superintendent and foreman) each with at least five years’ experience on historic renovations/ restorations • Note any professional or technical qualifications or certifications that would distinguish the subcontractor’s technical skill and/or knowledge. • Historic Wood Window and Door Restoration: including window/ door removal, repair and/or faithful historical reconstruction or reproduction, reassembly, installation of new insulating glazing units, window/ door reinstallation, and weather sealing and recoating exterior surfaces; detailed shop drawings indicating measured existing conditions of all window and door types, submittals, and a written work plan and schedule; all existing building opening weather protection, and means and methods necessary to accomplish this work.
