Specifications include, but are not limited to: 1)Provide a group Facilitator who isa Certified Substance Abuse Counselor under the Virginia Board of FamilyCounseling https://www.humanservicesedu.org/virginia-substance-abuse-counselor/.The facilitatorshouldhave experience working in the court system / criminal justice system with knowledge of casework,treatment methods, and knowledge of substance use treatment strategies; facilitating process-orientedgroups with the ability to communicate and to document client progress. Facilitator shouldbe willing tocollaborate with the County Project Officer who will be present at each session and may co-facilitate onsome of the topics. The Project Officer will also provide behavioral health interventions as needed.2)BARE Group sessions areprovided in-person; however, during pandemic restrictions, the Facilitator mustconduct group sessions virtually through a County approved platform. Once the County lifts restrictions,groups sessions will resume in-person. The County will notify the Facilitatorat least 14 calendar days priorto switching to in-person group sessions. In-person group sessions will be held at the Arlington CommunityCorrections Unit, 1400 N. Uhle Street, Suite 102, Arlington, VA 22201. BARE Group sessions will take placeonce a week, on Wednesdays 5:00PM–7:00 PM; with a minimum of four (4) participants and a maximumof twelve (12).3)BARE is a 12-week program; however, the program is structured so that new participants are acceptedinto existing groups every six (6) weeks, up to a total of 12 participants per group. The Facilitator wouldhave to conduct approximately 44 weekly sessions within a 12-monthperiod.For virtual sessions, theprogram is only 10 weeks long and the Facilitator wouldaccept new participants into the group every five(5) weeks, up toa maximum of ten (10) participants.4)Group facilitation should be interactive, engaging, andutilize a psycho-educational group approach.Facilitator must be able to engage participants who are resistant due to mandatory participationrequirement. The goal is to help participants gain self-knowledge by identifying high-risk situations anddevelop coping skills to maintain abstinence, increase better lifestyle choices, and adhere to state andcounty laws. The following topics shouldbe covered during the 12-week program:overview of substance-use issues, use/abuse of substances versus addiction, quitting, nutrition and wellness, and relapseprevention. The Facilitator may assign written assignments on any of the topics covered.Facilitator mustprovide all hand-outs.5)Facilitator must ensure that participants attend at least 12 self-help meeting such as AlcoholicsAnonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), or Marijuana Anonymous (MA) in addition to the BAREsessions. Based on a participant’s individual progress or lack thereof, the Probation Officer and theFacilitator may determine that additional self-help group sessions (beyond the 12) are needed.Participants must meet all attendance requirements (both self-help and facilitator-led groups) in order tocomplete the program successfully.
