SCOPE OF WORK – The George Washing & Jefferson National Forest Shenandoah River Ranger District is seeking contractors to complete tree planting across 120-acres. The Contractor shall furnish the tools & transportation, and perform all work necessary to conduct the work in compliance with terms, specifications, conditions, and provisions of this solicitation. The Shenandoah Ranger District will provide containerized shortleaf pine seedlings for planting.
TIMING – Tree planting will be scheduled to occur during the months of February 1st through March 15th of 2025. The start date of tree planting will depend on when seedlings are lifted at the nursery and delivered to the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest tree cooler where seedlings will then be made available to the contractor. It is expected that the seedlings will be available to the contractor during the first two weeks of February to begin planting. Once received by the Forest and then made available to the contractor seedlings shall be planted as soon as possible, ideally within two weeks of being made available to the contractor, but no longer than three weeks to prevent seedling degradation that could occur during prolonged periods of cold storage.
LOCATION – The area to be planted is located within the boundaries of the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest, Shenandoah Ranger District, in Hardy County, West Virginia. Project area map is attached. Planting Unit can be easily accessed via Squirrel Gap Road and is located at a driving distance of approximately 22 miles from Interstate I-81, Exit 296 in Strasburg, VA. This was recently harvested and is fairly open for planting operations.
