Metro Parks Tacoma (MPT) is requesting proposals from qualified security service contractors to provide unarmed, uniformed security guards and officers for MPT’s Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium (PDZA) to ensure the safety and security of property, personnel, and guests who visit PDZA. As designated by PDZA, the contractor(s) shall provide stationary guards or roving patrols (on-foot and vehicular), unarmed. The minimum duties to be accomplished are as outlined below: • Security Guard(s)/Officer(s) Services – requiring the guard/officer to patrol and monitor the compound by foot and/or driving checking and locking gates and making both visual and audible observations. The contractor will document and report all incidents, suspicious activities or breaches of security to PDZA Staff. • Security Guard(s)/Officer(s) is to be on-call via cell phone and radio when on site for hazardous situations impacting safety of personnel and animal life. Phone and radio to be provided by PDZA. Implement PDZA emergency notification process as outlined in detailed site instructions. • Security Guard(s)/Officer(s) will make complete rounds of the facility utilizing coordinated site checklist developed in conjunction with PDZA staff. Exact number of rounds and timing will be coordinated between Contractor & PDZA Operations prior to contract start. • Security Guard(s)/Officer(s) will respond to fire alarms within the facility. Determine scope of problem and take corrective action as needed or directed by PDZA Management with safety as a primary guiding factor. • Ensure all perimeter gates are secured per site lockdown list. Respond to after-hours requirements for emergency access for returning educational staff or emergency egress by park visitors locked on Metro Park’s grounds. Lock/unlock gates to park at prescribed opening/closing hours. • Maintain daily logs of all actions taken and problems noted, provide copies to management for followon response by end of shift. • Assist after-hours staff and volunteers as required. Provide a visible presence when overnight groups have on-going functions. • Any intruder found on site will be handled in a professional manner. Security staff is not expected to apprehend (may confront) intruders but will contact 911, assist law enforcement as needed and prepare written report and should (if issued) include a police report number and photos to support the breach in security. • Security Contractor will be knowledgeable of PDZA Emergency Evacuation Plan and be prepared to assist staff as required in the event of a natural disaster
