RFP-6154-14 - Ramey Open Space Structural and Geotechnical Engineering Services

Summary of Specifications:
Due to extensive flooding along the St. Vrain Creek in September 2013, direct damage to the Ramey Open Space property occurred in the southeast section of Lyons, Colorado. The property includes an historic homestead site with one of the oldest, intact assemblages of agricultural buildings in Boulder County. The flooding inundated the majority of the property and headward erosion caused a series of significant cutbacks emanating from the St. Vrain Creek channel and traversing across the property. One cutback undermined a portion of the historic barn causing it to partially collapse. The historic granary was also damaged after being completely dislodged and transported approximately 130 feet east of its original location by the flood waters. The granary has since been recovered from the creek bed by BCPOS staff, and will need considerable repairs and strengthening. One part of the barn was completely undermined by hydraulic action and the two portions of the barn have separated due to rotation and vertical displacement of the undermined portion. Both sections of the barn have significant racking. The granary is also severely damaged and is missing one complete wall. The granary is also significantly out of square. PURPOSE The Boulder County Parks and Open Space Department (BCPOS) is seeking engineering services to repair and strengthen the barn and granary and provide suitable foundations to minimize damage to these structures from any future flooding. It is expected that both structural and geotechnical engineers would be part of any team providing a response to this RFP.
