The City of Edgewater was incorporated in 1901. Edgewater is a Home Rule City located in Jefferson County, immediately west of the City and County of Denver, in the heart of the metropolitan area. The City has 35 full-time employees.
The City provides a wide range of municipal services including administration, finance, building maintenance, municipal court, city attorney, police, street maintenance, parks and recreation, open space, water, trash, and sewer services. The City operates the Board of Adjustments and Appeals, Election Commission, Parks, Recreation, Historic Preservation & Arts Advisory Board, Personnel Board, Planning & Zoning Commission and Charter Commission. One of its major revenue sources is sales tax on marijuana.
The City of Edgewater acquired the parcels to the south of the Edgewater Civic Center, known as 1730 and 1790 Harlan St., in 2018. The parcel is 0.93 Acres and includes three structures (2x homes and a shed), numerous trees and a fence that surrounds the property. The City of Edgewater performed asbestos testing on the structures earlier this year, with no asbestos found. The parcel is located within the City of Lakewood, requiring Lakewood permits necessary to complete the project. The City of Lakewood will waive all permit fees but contractor will be required to be licensed in both Edgewater and Lakewood.
