Description

The Water Quality Lab (WQL) is looking to purchase a quantitative polymerase chain reaction system (qPCR) to begin performing genetic analysis to advance the WQL’s monitoring capabilities of cyanotoxin and taste and odor producing algae in the City’s source waters. This instrument would give the WQL the ability to monitor the presence of genes associated with cyanotoxin production and geosmin production, allowing advanced prediction of the potential for a cyanotoxin or taste and odor event. This capability would lead to more informed decision making regarding necessary process changes for the purpose of protecting human health.
