The IOOF Park is an existing urban park space located in downtown Gunnison, CO. The approximately 50’ X 125’ park space includes some existing mature trees, manicured turf, an outdated water feature, perennial garden, seasonal restroom, and some site furnishing. The existing park space is heavily used during special events, such as bike races and the Farmer’s Market, but is otherwise underutilized.
The renovation plan includes plaza space, seat walls, gas fire pit, new water feature and splashpad, climbing feature, new site furnishings, festival lighting, new perennial bed and site boulders. The existing trees shall remain as well as a large part of the existing manicured turf area. The design incorporates some storytelling and interpretive design elements about the Gunnison Valley watershed and the IOOF organization whose building used to occupy the site.
