El Paso County has designed a replacement structure for an existing deficient bridge on Holtwood Road over Horse Creek. The bridge is located roughly 13 miles south of the Town of the Simla and approximately 0.8 miles north of Corona Road, on the border between El Paso County and Elbert County. Holtwood Road is a gravel road and is also known as Kendrick Road or Elbert County Road 133.

The existing timber bridge is 198 feet long with 7 spans and was built in 1935. It has a sufficiency rating of 40.0 and is load posted (11T/18T/17T) with failing girders and pilings. The bridge is within a designated FEMA floodplain in the Horse Creek Drainage Basin of the Horse Creek Watershed.
