17-027-R - Construction of the Oil Well Road Bridge Replacement Project

The Oil Well Road Bridge over the North Fork of Horse Creek is an aging, timber structure.  It is located approximately 10 miles east of the Town of the Calhan and approximately 2 miles south of Harrisville Road.  Records indicate that the bridge was constructed in 1935.  Structure appraisals dating back to the mid-1980’s show a deterioration in the integrity of the bridge which has resulted in increased maintenance and weight limit postings.  The bridge has reached its useful service life.
 
El Paso County proposes to remove the existing timber bridge and replace it with a concrete decked bridge constructed on steel piles, concrete pier caps, and precast concrete girders.  In addition, channel improvements will extend approximately 1,700’ upstream and approximately 300’ downstream of the bridge and will include two grouted-boulder drop structures and riprap armoring on the channel side slopes near the bridge abutments.
