El Paso County Public Health (EPCPH) is soliciting responses from qualified Consultants to furnish all materials and labor necessary to provide services for an On-Call Strict Quarantine Animal Facility for animals exposed to rabies for El Paso County.
EPCPH conducts investigations on possible or known rabies exposures in pets. An exposed pet with no history, or an unknown history, of prior rabies vaccination must be placed in strict quarantine for a defined period of time (90 days). The quarantine is used to safely restrict movement of the animal and maintain close observation for development of rabies symptoms. The purpose of this agreement is to define requirements for strict quarantine in veterinary facilities.
A rabies infection is a serious and fatal infection in humans and animals. Pursuant to Colorado Revised Statute §25-4-605 and the regulations of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and in accordance with the Compendium of Animal Rabies Prevention and Control from the National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians (the “Compendium”), strict quarantine should be arranged in an approved, secure licensed veterinary facilities to ensure the health and safety of facility staff, guests, other animals, and the quarantined animal. The cost of quarantining a pet in a secure veterinary facility is solely the pet owner's (client’s) responsibility.
