Summary of Specifications:
The Public Works Department is requesting proposals for consultant services for a scheduling and routing study of the town’s local transit system. This project will evaluate the existing route structure, propose alternative routes and develop a new service schedule. The purpose of the proposed route changes are to reduce the headways of the transit services, to better coordinate the local service with the regional transit service, to lengthen the service day to better accommodate work trips and to provide service to a larger geographical section of town. The consultant shall prepare an estimate of the budget savings, or deficits that could result from the proposed route changes. Interested firms must have expertise in operations, scheduling and routing of transit systems similar to the Town’s.
In preparing the proposed route changes the Town wants the Consultant to consider a number of options including split shifts, mid day breaks and the use of neighborhood circulator buses that would feed a central route. The addition, or elimination, of bus stops that can help meet these goals will also be one of the goals of the study.
