RD.1.2017 - 2017 Asphalt Pavement Patching Service

The contractor shall mark patch areas and receive approval from the project manager prior to making any cuts. Area to be patched with asphalt shall be cut in a straight line for the full depth of the existing asphalt; the shape shall be in general rectangular with square corners, parallel or perpendicular to the flow of traffic. The depth of patch shall be a minimum of 6-inches or the depth of existing asphalt, whichever is greater. Existing base/sub-base material shall be leveled and compacted. There must be a minimum of (4) inches of compacted roadbase. Additional excavation or material may be needed in some areas. A heavy Tack Coat shall be applied to all edges of existing asphalt prior to placing the patch. Where exposed base material is aggregate, a light Tack Coat shall be applied to the bottom. The HMAP grading shall be SX with PG 64-22 binder. Asphalt compaction shall be between 92 and 96 percent for top lift. Type S or G may be used for bottom lifts. Up to 20% R.A.P may be used in mix.
