DQ_INF-0000000019 - Battery Electric Bus Preventative Maintenance

The University of Colorado Boulder (UCB) Transportation Services department currently owns four (4) Battery Electric Buses (BEBs) with four (4) more BEBs scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2025 bringing the total number of BEB’s requiring maintenance to eight (8). The University has not been able to perform the necessary preventative maintenance on these buses per the requirements of the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), who is New Flyer America. The reasons for the lack of maintenance and repairs are due to the University not having adequately trained staff to perform this maintenance, which is highly specialized. Also, there have been issues with our Level 3 vehicle chargers which will also need to be repaired and maintained as part of the successfully awarded solicitation. The University’s BEBs have only been available 47% of the time. This unreliability is due, in part, to the inadequate preventative maintenance. It is to be expected that all eight buses will be repaired and maintained and receive immediate support from the awarded supplier.
