The City of East Point is soliciting bids for testing, abatement, and disposal of asbestos, lead-based paint, and mold for select residential structures. The contractor must be fully licensed and trained to handle these specific work practices.
Over the last ten (10) years, vacant residential structures in the City have been and continued to be identified and mapped. A task force comprised of city Building, Fire, and Code Enforcement officials conducted inspections and determined specific structures that were vacant and considered to be substandard housing. Properties were also logged by East Point citizens interested in neighborhood revitalization.
Using authority granted under the International Fire Code as its legal arm, the City has taken steps to abate life and safety conditions that exist due to properties being vacated and abandoned and had been declared unsafe for habitation. Through the Clean City Initiative (CCI): 50 Worst Properties Program, legal action will be pursued for the immediate demolition of said properties, effectively eliminating vacant and blighted properties from the City of East Point’s landscape, whereby providing for neighborhood redevelopment and renewal. The goal of the CCI program is to adopt and execute best practices that support sustainable communities.
