Montgomery County Maryland is situated centrally in the National Capital region. The County manages, operates, and provides a wide variety and array of services to its citizens and closely partners and interacts with Federal, State, local municipalities, boards and commissions in the Washington, D. C. metropolitan area. The County will require Offerors to have significant and documented municipal experience in governments comparable to the size and complexity of the County.
The Fire-Rescue Service in Montgomery County is comprised of several organizations working together with the common goal of providing quality fire, rescue and EMS services. These organizations include nineteen (19) local [volunteer] fire and rescue departments (LFRDs) and the Fire and Emergency Services Commission (FESC). The career and volunteer components of the combined Fire and Rescue Service work in an integrated Emergency Command Structure that defines the authority and responsibility for all members of the Fire and Rescue Service. Career employees comprise approximately 81% of the overall staffing of emergency apparatus and approximately 19% is provided by volunteers. The LFRDs include Bethesda, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Burtonsville, Cabin John Park, Chevy Chase, Damascus, Gaithersburg-Washington Gove, Germantown, Glen Echo, Hillandale, Hyattstown, Kensington, Laytonsville District, Rockville, Sandy Spring, Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Upper Montgomery County, and Wheaton.
Several of the LFRDs have more than one station; therefore, there are a total of 38 stations county-wide as of FY2016, including some County-owned stations and the training academy which may respond to incidents. Along with career firefighter-rescuers serving at these stations, volunteer firefighter-rescuers comprise a portion of the overall staffing on emergency apparatus at some of these stations, primarily during evenings and weekends.
