21-0132 - Residential Curbside Organics Collection

The City of Medford is seeking to establish a mutually beneficial business relationship
with a contractor to provide residential subscription service for organics collection. This
contract will not directly fund the service provided by the Contractor. The overall goal of
this contract is to encourage residential organics diversion and provide the vendor with a
high volume of clients within a single municipality. The contract is estimated to begin on
or shortly after April 1, 2021 and will end April 1, 2022. The City will have the option to
renew the contract for two one-year extensions with the same pricing.

The City of Medford will actively promote the preferred vendor on its website and within
outreach materials throughout the duration of the contract. City staff time and funds will
be allocated to the promotion of the service and the education of residents regarding
organics diversion options available. Aside from these resources, the City will not
provide funding to offset the subscription cost for residents. However, the City is
interested in exploring options to provide subsidized service for low-income residents,
including potentially municipal subsidy
