ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS FOR 2016 WOODY VEGETATION MANAGEMENT
Oakland Township Parks and Recreation is seeking proposals from experienced and qualified contractors to provide woody vegetation management in Stony Creek Ravine Nature Park, located at 1280 Knob Creek Dr., Oakland, MI 48306 and Watershed Ridge Park, 1720 Buell Rd, Oakland, MI 48306. Proposals will be received at the Oakland Township offices at 4393 Collins Rd, Rochester, MI 48306 until May 4, 2016, at 3:00 P.M., Local Time.
The submission of a proposal by a contractor shall be considered evidence that the contractor is satisfied with respect to the conditions to be encountered and the character, quantity and quality of the work to be performed.
Oakland Township Parks and Recreation officially distributes bid documents from the Oakland Township office, 4393 Collins Rd, Rochester, MI 48306 or through the Michigan Intergovernmental Trade Network (MITN, www.mitn.info). Copies of bid documents obtained from any other source are not considered official copies. Only those vendors who obtain bid documents from either the Oakland Township office or the MITN System are guaranteed access to receive addendum information, if such information is issued.
OAKLAND TOWNSHIP PARKS AND RECREATION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REJECT ANY AND ALL PROPOSALS. Any deviation from the specifications must be noted on the proposal.

Proposals must be submitted in a sealed envelope marked: “RFP – 2016 WOODY VEGETATION MANAGEMENT.”
A required pre-bid meeting will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 10:00 am to inspect the restoration sites. Meet at Watershed Ridge Park, 1720 Buell Rd, Oakland, MI 48306. After review of that work site we will proceed to Stony Creek Ravine Nature Park, 1280 Knob Creek Dr., Oakland, MI, about a 10 minute drive.
Background The 2016 Woody Vegetation Management project involves work at Stony Creek Ravine Nature Park and Watershed Ridge Park. Both project sites include natural areas with rolling terrain. Sites have thick infestations of non-native invasive woody plants, including autumn olive, common buckthorn, glossy buckthorn, oriental bittersweet. The goals for managing woody vegetation are to facilitate user access along trails and to begin the ecological restoration process.
The purpose of this solicitation is identify a contractor who will work in a professional manner to control woody vegetation on project sites. Work may begin after October 1, 2016 and must be completed by February 24, 2017. A hydro-ax or similar equipment should be used to shred woody vegetation, minimizing soil disturbance. Project boundaries and desirable native trees that should not be removed will be marked by Oakland Township Parks and Recreation staff before work begins. The total area to be cleared at Stony Creek Ravine Nature Park is up to 17.1 acres. At Watershed Ridge Park the total area to be cleared is up to 16.3 acres.
