The Charter Township of Orion is inviting bids from third-party vendors to conduct a comprehensive classification, wage, and compensation study for Township employees. This study aims to review the existing job classification structure and make recommendations for necessary modifications, and evaluate the Township's current wage and compensation package to ensure competitiveness with similar agencies and industries.
The Township consists of 10 departments with a mix of full-time union and non-union employees. The Township’s structure includes three full-time elected officials, eight non-union directors, eight non-union mid-level management positions, five non-union staff members, and approximately 60 union employees. The unions represented are IAFF (firefighters), Technical (clerical staff), and DPW (public works).
The Technical Union currently has 29 job descriptions across nine levels that the Township seeks to consolidate and streamline.
The fire department will be excluded from this classification, wage, and compensation study, except for the Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, and Fire Office Coordinator. The current contracts for the Technical Union and DPW Union are set to expire on December 31, 2025.
