Summary of Specifications:
Sealed proposals endorsed “Baldwin Avenue Bridge Replacement, Contract #2-09(M)” will be received from contractors by the City of Birmingham, at the office of the City Clerk, located at 151 Martin Street, Birmingham, Michigan, until 2:00 p.m., on Monday, June 8, 2009. The proposals will be publicly read aloud at that time.
The project will replace the existing precast side by side box beam structure over the Rouge River with a new precast concrete three-sided box culvert on augered cast pile supported foundations. Road work consists of new pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and associated alignment improvements extending south of the bridge to the West Maple Road intersection.
Plans and specifications for the project may be obtained from the City’s Engineering Department, (248) 530-1840, located on the second floor of City Hall, beginning Tuesday, May 19, 2009, for a non-refundable fee of $40.00 if picked up directly, or $50.00 if mailed. Payment shall be in the form of a check made payable to the City of Birmingham, which must be received prior to mailing of plans and specifications. Overnight delivery will be accommodated provided arrangements are made for the shipping cost to be paid through the purchaser’s account.
The successful bidder shall be required to post bonds, and to comply with the contract requirements of the City Charter. Bids are firm, and no bid may be withdrawn for a period of sixty (60) days after opening of bids.
The City reserves the right to reject any and all bid proposals, to waive any irregularity in any of the bid proposals submitted, and to accept any proposal which it shall deem to be the most favorable to the interest of the City.
A certified check or bid bond in the amount of five percent (5%) of the base bid must accompany each bid proposal.
