The proposed project consists of the removal and replacement of up to 600 lead water service leads, from the existing water main into the building being served by each water lead, over 3 years (2022 to 2024) maximum. This shall include a new service from the water main to within the building. The locations of the water service lead replacements are included in the attachments of these bid documents. Coordination with the City of Melvindale DPW and Water Department for scheduling, notification of residents, and service installations will be required throughout the project.
During 2022, there are 204 services proposed along Wall Street, Flora Street, and Downing Street. During 2023, there are 196 services proposed along Robert Street and Henry Street. During 2024, there are 200 services proposed in locations to be determined in clusters throughout the City.
The anticipated start date for the 2022 portion, weather permitting, is no later than August 15, 2022, and substantially completed by November 4, 2022, with final completion by November 18, 2022. The anticipated start date for the 2023 portion, weather permitting, is no later than April 15, 2023, and substantially completed by June 15, 2023, with final completion by June 30, 2023. The anticipated start date for the 2024 portion, weather permitting, is no later than April 15, 2024, and substantially completed by June 15, 2024, with final completion by June 30, 2024.
This project will be bid with two alternates, indicated as “Bid Alternate A” and “Bid Alternate B”.
“Bid Alternate A” will include the full replacement of the lead service with copper leads via directional drill, including all pavement removals, bore pits, building bores, service line installations, connections, pavement replacement, and all restoration required to complete the project.
“Bid Alternate B” will only include the directional bore and copper service lead installation from the existing water main to the curb stop, and from the curb stop to the building. The City of Melvindale DPW will be responsible for all pavement removals, bore pits, building bores, service connections (at water main, curb stop, and inside building), restoration, and traffic control. Extensive coordination with the City DPW will be required for scheduling and installation.
There will be an optional pre-bid meeting on Thursday, June 9, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am (EST). This meeting will be held virtually.
