This truck mounted attenuator is a protective mechanism that attenuator or lessens the impact of a crash. The main components include two foam-filled canisters and an aluminum frame that collapse on impact. The whole device is designed to protect drivers and road workers by absorbing the energy of vehicle-truck crashes especially in areas with speeds up to 75 miles per hour. The attenuator’s 14-foot aluminum frame attaches to the back of the truck and folds up while the truck is driving or in the DPW garage. When the truck parks at the side of the road, the attenuator’s hydraulic system is activated and lowers the device into place.
