On behalf of the Mayor’s Workforce Development Board (MWDB), the Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation (DESC) is seeking proposals from qualified applicants to provide training, job placement and career advancement opportunities to Detroit residents through a sector partnership model, using a combination of public and private funding.
DESC is seeking one or more bidders who can effectively provide math and mechanical
reasoning skills training for up to 3,000 – 5,000 Detroit at Work participants between
July 8, 2019 and April 30, 2020. To obtain an entry-level production operator job at
FCA, an applicant must have a high school diploma or high school equivalency/GED and
they must pass an online assessment of math, mechanical reasoning skills and
behavioral characteristics. A survey of current Detroit at Work Career Center customers
indicates that those with a high school diploma as the highest educational attainment
level test at a functional math grade level of 6.91 and a functional reading grade level of
7.84. For those with a high school equivalency/GED as the highest educational
attainment level, average math grade level is 7.00 and reading level is 8.78.
