The NYSCC at Alfred University is currently looking to purchase an Eplilog dual source laser system in order to expand
program offerings to students in our School of Engineering and School of Art & Design. We currently have one Epilog CO2 laser in
Glass Engineering, two Epilog CO2 lasers in the Expanded Media Division of the School of Art and Design, and one laser is that is for
general use by all students in the School of Engineering and the School of Art and Design. Continuing the use of Epilog lasers will
increase access for the growing demand from these Schools programs and allow for continuing the unified training system in place
utilizing the improved user-friendly interface. The new dual source laser (CO2 and fiber) will serve all students in the School of
Engineering and the School of Art and Design as the addition of the fiber laser component to our existing CO2 lasers will allow us the
new capability to etch metal. Etching metal can be used extensively by sculpture students and engineers. Printmakers will be able to etch
copper and steel plates for the intaglio printmaking process. The standard CO2 function can be used by a wide range of students.
Painting, glass, and ceramic students will use the laser to make custom stencils. Custom tools can be designed and cut for engineering,
glass, and ceramics. Additionally, there are students in the School of Engineering and the School of Art and Design that obtain a Minor in
Business. These students will be able to design and fabricate custom items to help them fulfil the requirements of this degree.
