SPECIFICATIONS FOR RFB-2462 READY MIX CONCRETE MATERIALS (2023-2024)
GENERAL: a) This specification describes the minimum material and quality requirements for Ready Mix Concrete and Flowable Fill for use in the construction and maintenance of highways.
MATERIALS: a) The materials and methods used to produce structural concrete shall be in accordance with the applicable requirements of NYSDOT Section 204, Section 501, Section 555 and Section 733-01. 3. NYSDOT Concrete Mix /Class: a) Concrete mix design for all structural concrete shall be in accordance with NYSDOT Sub- Section 501-2. Substitutions may only be allowable, upon approval of the Owner TABLE 501-1 CONCRETE CLASS OPTIONS NYS Concrete Class Primary Use A general purpose structural D thin structural applications E structural slabs and structural approach slabs F high early strength for pavement or structural applications HP pumping, structural slabs, approach slabs, substructures exposed to chlorides CLSM - FLOWABLE BACK FILL 4. ALTERNATE Concrete Mix /Class: a) Concrete mix designs for all structural concrete shall be in accordance with NYSDOT Sub- Section 501-2. Concrete Mix Class substitutions may only be allowable, upon approval of the Owner. Controlled Low Strength Material (CLSM) is an acceptable alternative to compacted soil backfill in confined spaces and consists of cement, water and, at the Contractor’s option, fly ash, aggregate or chemical admixtures in any proportions such that the final product meets the strength and flow consistency requirements included in the specification. The mix is proportioned to be much lower in strength than concrete, self-leveling and does not require compaction. d) Lightweight Concrete Fill is an engineered geotechnical material with a unique strength/ density relationship used to reduce loads on soft foundation soils, buried structures, or against retaining walls and consists of a Portland cement matrix containing uniformly distributed, non- interconnected air voids introduced by a foaming agent. The flowability and cementitious properties provide a product that is self-leveling and does not require compaction. DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS AND NOTIFICATIONS: Emergency Repairs – delivery same day Planned Concrete Pours – delivery within 12-18 hour notice Bridge Deck Pours – delivery with 36 hour notice – as ordered by Owner to assist placement Conveyor Small Load – as required 5. MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT: a) Unit price bid per Cubic Yard of product shall include all materials, equipment and labor required to provide the ordered product at the times and locations identified by theOwner. b) Measure for payment shall be the number of cubic yards of concrete ordered by the Owner. c) All material tickets or certified copies shall be submitted to the Owner forproject records. d)Material tickets must identify date and location of delivery, and quantity of materials. e) Unit bid price per Lump Sum for Small Load Charge shall be an additional surcharge when less than three (3) cubic yards of concrete or CLSM are ordered. f) Unit bid price per cubic yard for Truck Mounted Discharge Conveyor shall be an additional surcharge when equipment is ordered by the Owner to assist placement.
