Summary of Specifications:
The City of Troy in partnership with the Catholic Charities Office of Community Development (CCOCD), recognizes that we must develop a more holistic approach to community development in certain distressed communities. An approach that not only addresses the increasingly complex needs and concerns of our youth but also the broader based and deeply rooted issues of poverty, education, unemployment and crime that plague a number of Rensselaer County’s urban and rural communities.
The City of Troy, through its Community Development Block Grant programming, has committed resources both directly and indirectly to activities that are focused on mitigating these issues. CCOCD is a Community Development Agency with a broad range of prevention and intervention strategies that are designed to service high-risk communities. The target population is still growing in these neighborhoods and the demands for services are increasing even as the funding for services and programs is becoming scarcer. It has become the charge of CCOCD to aggressively pursue economic stability within these communities. CCOCD envisions its role in the Rensselaer County community as one that serves to empower and support distressed and disenfranchised residents with excellent, ethical and comprehensive programming, leadership, and services designed to help improve their overall quality of life and assist in their economic recovery. In providing these services, CCOCD is mindful of its responsibility to be respectful of its client’s personal dignity. It is expected that all CCOCD programs and staff will reflect its core values:
• Culturally competent services grounded in dignity and justice.
• Service of compassion and respect that supports and empowers the client’s goals as they progress towards a turning point in their lives. • A holistic safety net of integrated services. CCOCD can assist clients on their journey to educational, financial, and physical well-being. • Service to all members of the Rensselaer County community. CCOCD is committed to being responsive to and respectful of, the various cultural and linguistic needs of its clients, staff and volunteers.
