The County of Rockland Department of Mental Health is considering the issuance of a Sole Source award to Camp Venture, Inc. for the provision of a Summer Camp Program for children with and without developmental disabilities.
This award may be made on a sole source basis in accordance with the Rockland County Procurement Policy.
TERM: January 1, 2021- December 31, 2021
SCOPE
The Summer Camp Program provides an opportunity for children with and without disabilities, to participate in a truly integrated recreational summer camp experience. This experience promotes the development of social skills and increased self-esteem among the children with disabilities. Diversity awareness, empathy, and advocacy skills are encouraged and developed in the campers without disabilities.
The program will serve up to 90 participants during the 2021 summer program.
PROGRAM SERVICES
The camp program includes swimming, horseback riding, sports, on site entertainment and other creative activities. All activities partner children with disabilities and those without as teammates and buddies, thereby promoting social awareness and growth in all children. Children are encouraged to be supportive of one another and the program emphasizes sharing and caring throughout each activity and each day.
PROGRAM GOALS
- Provide children with developmental disabilities the opportunity to participate in a fully integrated, community-based summer camp.
- Encourage children with disabilities to try new things and gain new skills in a safe and supportive environment.
- Improved Social skills via natural interactions between all the children.
- Genuine, caring relationship will be formed between all the children.
- Children without disabilities will learn patience and acceptance, as well as gain new skills and enjoy new relationships.
- These same children will carry this acceptance back to their homes and schools which will set the stage and foster other opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to be integrated in the community.
- Kindness, acceptance, and social responsibility will be instilled in the youth of Rockland County.
